Florida is an important place for neurofeedback. It is the home of the Florida Biofeedback Society which is based in Boynton Beach, Florida. This is one of the most active biofeedback organizations in the nation. It is a resource for potential clients looking for biofeedback and neurofeedback providers. The website is http://www.floridabiofeedback.org/ They also have workshops where providers can receive training and continuing education credit. The Florida Biofeedback Society offers a membership that includes a subscription to its Florida Biofeedback publication, networking opportunities, as well as other perks. Applied Neurosciences Inc. is an EEG software company based in Saint Petersburg, Florida. They develop software for clinical and research applications of EEG including brain mapping and Neurofeedback training Florida. The company was founded by Robert Thatcher. Their flagship software product is the NeuroGuide software program. It is one of the most known and important software programs in the neurofeedback field. Many neurofeedback practitioners use NeuroGuide and other Applied Neurosciences software. There are many drug treatment centers in Florida partly due to the continuing opioid problems there. Neurofeedback is also used as a therapy for substance abuse. Although only some centers currently offer neurofeedback, I expect that more of these centers will be offering this service. Florida is a popular retirement destination. Incontinence is a problem that many older people suffer with. Biofeedback is an excellent therapeutic intervention for incontinence. Its efficacy is highly rated. Many older people are also concerned with loss of cognitive function and memory. Neurofeedback is effective for improving cognitive function and shows promise in the area of memory because of its ability to stimulate neuronal connections. Most psychologists in the United States need to attend training to keep up with new developments in the field and to remind them of things that they may have learned a long time ago. There are many options for training including face-to-face programs, online programs, and material that psychologists can read. There is a multitude of different topics that can be studied. Since psychologists have to take training, it makes sense to make it something interesting, enjoyable, and useful. Biofeedback and neurofeedback are subjects that check all of those boxes. Psychologists tend to do a lot of talking and paperwork as a part of their routine. Some of this can become monotonous. Biofeedback and neurofeedback use technology that helps the clients of psychologists learn about themselves. It helps them to learn how to make real, physiological, measurable changes. They can learn to change how their body reacts to stress using biofeedback. They can train their brain to become more regulated through neurofeedback. I have spoken to many practicing psychologists who have only had minimal exposure to biofeedback or neurofeedback during their initial education in psychology. Most have not had extensive training in this either area. Many professionals that get trained in an area want to become certified if certification is available. The most recognized body offering certification in biofeedback and neurofeedback is the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA). The didactic educational requirement for BCIA peripheral biofeedback certification is 42 hours. The requirement for neurofeedback is 36 hours. With a course approved for APA continuing education credits for biofeedback or neurofeedback, a psychologist can receive a large number of required hours in a short amount of time while learning an exciting and effective skill. This can be a great opportunity for psychologists to gain required hours while learning an evidenced-based therapy tool that can also bring some variety to their work and help their clients as well. Motivated or high functioning people are different. Ask these people why they strive and many reasons unfold. Some report success as a compensation for early difficulties. Many others report that they seem to have been born with a gift and were given encouragement and resources to succeed. External forces differ. It is clear that in one area there is agreement. An internal desire to do well is the largest single common thread that signifies a potential high achiever. Those with this internal desire have learned to reflect on correcting past actions. EEG Neurofeedback or Alpha Training is one way to increase the ability to perform at a higher level. Alpha re-tunes the mind by calming the body and allowing the mind to be free. One’s mind is creating neural pathways by simple repeated thoughts and or actions. Where are your thoughts leading you? How disciplined are any of us about where our minds or bodies are pointing? WRAP is a meme that serves as a reminder to keep positive energy surroundings one’s goals. The WRAP formula signifies the importance of wanting (goals), remembering the importance of attitude and of course persistence. Wanting one’s goals while keeping a positive attitude about trying and often failing is easy to claim and hard to live. Failure might mean you learned but perhaps it hurt. Remembering this double-edged sword is useful. Now you know more about where to bend and where to stand. Reflections help one to mentally practice for the future. Those who are persistence know about the long wait. It is no big deal. Those willing to thoughtfully experiment can often achieve big results. More Info : APA Continuing Education Credit, Georgia

Saybrook University and the Behavioral Medicine Research and Training Foundation have partnered to offer continuing education courses in many areas of psychophysiology including biofeedback and related topics. These courses are intended for professionals such as clinicians, coaches, and educators rather than the public. As these are continuing education courses, students earn CE credits for each course rather than college course credit. The courses are not part of a certification program but can be applied to several such programs. Students do receive a course completion certificate upon successful completion of a course. Psychophysiology and its role in health care, education, and optimal performance coaching: Applied psychophysiology focuses on the amelioration / treatment and prevention of disease, reduction of stress responses, and creation of optimal performance through teaching people techniques for recognizing and correcting abnormal physiological responses. Every course offered in this program is based on solid research published in main-stream journals. Efficacy of each technique taught is discussed and substantiated. About the courses : Our continuing education courses are available to clinicians, coaches, and educators interested in learning about psychophysiology and biofeedback. This combination of courses is intended to provide professionals with the basic knowledge they need to understand psychophysiology and incorporate it into their practices. They are all in distance / home learning, format including pre-recorded audiovisual lectures, movies, readings in texts, and frequent interactions with the instructor. Students work at their own paces and have up to a year after the date of purchase to complete a course. All course material is accessed from the course web site so people interested in our courses must have consistent access to the internet. These are distance learning courses (rather than self directed learning courses) as there is substantial interaction between the faculty and student. Distance education refers to instruction delivered to students who are separated from their instructor and in support of regular and substantive interaction between them, whether in real time or through time delay. Substantial interaction is where a student and a faculty participate in back and forth discussions on an educational topic. More Info : APA Continuing Education Credit, Georgia

injuries can be caused in many different ways. Whether they are diagnosed or not can depend on how severe they are, where they happen, who is around when they happen, and whether the injured person seeks medical care. Some of the sources of brain injuries include car accidents, sports injuries, slip and falls, physical fights and assaults among other things. When the brain is injured the electrical activity and function of the brain is affected. Neurofeedback training is a way to help to normalize the electrical activity of the brain which in turn helps improve function. Some of the problems that may develop with a head injury include problems with memory, difficulty focusing, anger, and diminished self-control. Some of these problems are similar to what normal teenagers struggle with. This is often attributed to incomplete development of the front of the brain. Interestingly, many people who suffer these symptoms also show abnormal EEG when tested with neurofeedback equipment. One of the patterns that is common is high amplitude delta and theta in the frontal areas of the brain. This seems to interfere with normal functioning and can be part of the cause of some of the symptoms. By using neurofeedback equipment to measure and feedback EEG information on a computer screen clients can learn to regulate their brain activity. After a series of training the EEG is often normalized and symptoms decreased. Besides rest, there are relatively few effective treatments for brain injury. Neurofeedback training seems to be a good non-invasive therapy for brain injury. More Info : Neurofeedback Training New York

Neurofeedback training Florida is a method of using technology to measure the electrical signals produced by the brain as neurons communicate, and feeding back that information in order to train the brain to make positive changes. The electrical signals are measured via small sensors placed on the scalp. These sensors connect to an instrument that connects to a computer. The signals are processed and displayed in the form of line graphs, bar graphs, and digital displays. The process uses goals that are set to either encourage increasing or decreasing the power of certain frequencies ie theta, alpha, beta. When the goals are met feedback is given to alert the trainee that their brain is in the desired state. The feedback can take the form of a light turning on or changing color, an animation, movie, or game playing, or a sound or music playing. This feedback is reinforcing to the brain and encourages the brain to repeat what it just did to get the feedback. More Info Click Here : Neurofeedback Training

Mental health symptoms and solutions are being openly discussed more than ever. Most days that I turn on the news I hear at least one story related to mental health. Just today I heard a report about three separate people who were survivors or a relative of a survivor of a school shooting who committed suicide. We often hear reports of the devastation across the country related to abuse of opioid drugs. Concussions caused by car accidents, slip and falls, sports injuries cause memory loss, behavior and mood changes as well as other problems. People are being diagnosed with ADD and ADHD and prescribed medications that may have to be taken for the rest of their lives with potential side effects. Neurofeedback equipment is being used as one therapy modality that can help with many mental health conditions. Healthcare professionals including psychologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, mental health counselors, social workers, nurses, chiropractors are using neurofeedback adjunctively with other therapies to help people with many of these mental health problems. For more information on conditions that neurofeedback therapy is used for refer to Comprehensive Neurofeedback Bibliography D. Corydon Hammond, PhD. More Info : Biofeedback Training Boston, MA

As I remember a lot of activity started around 1989. Adam Crane, who I used to work for, and a team that he assembled designed and manufactured a neurofeedback system called the CapScan. Some of the names that I remember who bought some of the early systems and began training and providing neurofeedback services include Genie Bodenhamer-Davis, Ph.D. Director, University of North Texas Neurotherapy Program, Bob Dickson – Open Door Mission, Houston, TX, Nancy White, Psychologist, PhD. I had the opportunity to provide technical support for some. Some of the growth was around providers who were using the substance abuse protocols to help people who were affected by the cocaine and crack cocaine epidemic that was happening at the time. Let’s face it, drugs are not the best answer to all medical conditions. No matter what the symptom, there seems to be a medication to treat it. Whether it is indigestion, acid reflux, insomnia, anxiety, depression, hypertension, or headaches, there is a pill for it. For the most part, these drugs only treat the symptoms temporarily. They usually are not getting to the cause of the problem or stopping the symptoms permanently. Behavioral health training is an area that takes into account a person’s behavior and the role it plays in their health and overall well-being. What are some of the things that a person does that can affect their health and well-being? Here is a partial list: physical activity, eating, sleep, attitude or outlook on life. Healthcare providers are beginning to acquire additional training so that they can help patients to become and stay more healthy. Does your doctor follow the old drug model, asking what is the symptom and then quickly prescribing a medication? If your doctor is incorporating behavioral health into their practice then they will be asking you about much more than your symptoms. Some of the kinds of questions that you should expect to be asked are: What kind of work do you do? How much do you exercise? What kinds of foods do you eat? Do you smoke? How much alcohol do you drink? Do you use any drugs? What is your social life like? Are you married? Do you have children? More Info : Behavioral health training | APA continuing Credits
